Panna National Park

Information on Panna National Park :

Panna National Park is located in Panna and Chhatarpur districts in M.P with an area of about 543 square miles (1,406 km²). The topography in Panna National Park is rolling and heavily forested with many streams and waterfalls. The park is known worldwide for its wild cats, including tigers as well as deer and antelope. It is very close to Khajuraho. Hence the park is recognized as an exciting stop-over destination.    Tour Enquiry

Panna National Park is also referred to as a Tiger Reserve since it comes under the aegis of Project Tiger in India. The decline of tiger population in Panna has been reported several times, thus two female tigers were relocated there from Bandhavgarh National Park and Kanha National Park in March 2009.  The tigress, trans-located from Bandhavgarh, gave birth to three cubs in April 2010. The tigress, trans-located from Kanha, gave birth to two cubs several months later.

Panna as a place is also famous for its diamond industry.

Climate at Panna National Park :
The climate of the region is tropical. In summers one has the maximum probability of encountering the animals of this park. Winters are cold and comfortable and the temperature generally remains between 15°C to 25°C. Monsoon comes  in July and continues till mid-September.

Wildlife at Panna National Park:Among the animals found here are the chital, the chinkara, the sambhar and the sloth bear. It is also a tiger reserve. The park is home to more than 200 species of birds including the Bar-headed Goose, the Honey Buzzard, the King Vulture and the Blossom-headed Parakeet. 

 Along with the Tiger the leopard, wild dog, wolf, hyaena, caracal  and other smaller cats are seen here. Sloth bear has his most favourite home in the rock escarpments and undisturbed vales. The wooded areas are dotted with sambar, the largest of Indian deers, chital and chowsingha. Nilgai and chinkara are easily seen in the most open areas in the grasslands, specially on the periphery.   Tour Enquiry

 How to Reach Panna National Park :

By Air : Khajuraho at 37 -kms is the nearest airport connected directly with Panna national park. 
Rail : Satna, at a distance of around 90 km, is the nearest railway station. It is a major railway hub and is connected to many places in central and western India. 
Road : Panna National Park is connected by road with Khajuraho-37 kms and other places of Madhya Pradesh. 

Best Season to Visit Panna National Park :  February to June although cool season (October to February) is much more comfortable and still very good for 
wildlife. The park is closed from July 01 to October 01 because of the monsoon. 

Panna National Park Visit Timings
1. 15 November to 15 February – Sunrise to 12.00 noon and 3.00 pm to Sunset.
2. 16 February to 30 April – Sunrise to 1200 noon and 4.00 pm to Sunset.
3. 1 May to 30 June – Sunrise to 11.00 am and 5.00 pm to Sunset.
